We found that lower health literacy is related to a worse quality of life, including the physical component of the quality of life as well as the mental component of the quality of life. The findings imply that it is necessary to pay more attention to dialysis patients so that they can understand well the treatment, the recommendations regarding self-care at home, and that they really know how to act correctly on the basis of this information. It is equally important to offer them psychological help and to act supportively not only in terms of their physical health, but also their mental health.
