On 30th November our PhD. students Veronika Pacutova and Viktorya Karchynskaya met with Claire Gudex, who is Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, where she teaches academic writing and undertakes research in patient outcome measurement. She is also a founder member of the EuroQol Group, an international research group for the development of the generic health measure. They personally discussed medical writing of the articles, how to improve their skills.

On 30th November our PhD. students Veronika Pacutova and Viktorya Karchynskaya met with Julie Dalgaard Guldager, who is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. They discussed physical activity among Danish and Slovak adolescents and COVID-19 pandemic management. Interesting to mention is that Julie is also part of the research team which created the first virtual application of the party simulation just to prevent peer pressure regarding alcohol consumption among young people.

Academic stress in Danish medical and health science students during the COVID-19 lock-down

What Predicts Adherence to Governmental COVID-19 Measures among Danish Students?

Journal editing in Health Sciences course organised by Swiss School of Public health was focused on theoretical background and practical training in evaluating manuscripts. During online interactive lectures and self-studies participants learnt to take responsible decisions as editors and reviewers, at all stages of peer-review. Main goal of the course was preparing attendees for an appointment as associate editor.

So far, we’ve managed to visit five schools (three of those this week) in Prešov, Košice and their vicinity despite the deteriorating epidemiological situation. Due to the uncertainty caused by the bad epidemiological situation and regulations, our pilot data collection is nearing the end. If everything goes well, we should be able to visit the last school in the near future.

Chamber for Medical Law – Medius and h&h PARTNERS lawyer’s office organized a webinar „How to prevent legal sanction when doing triage during pandemic?“ and prof. Andrea Madarasová Gecková was invited to cover mental health challenes of triage.

Our colleague Jaroslava Kopčáková attended a work meeting within project Health and health-related behavior of adolescents and methods of prevention of lifestyle diseases KEGA 020UKF-4/2021. On 25th November 2021 she had an opportunity to meet with colleagues from the Department of Physical Education and Sport, Faculty of Education, Constantine The Philosopher University in Nitra and from the Department of Sports Education and Humanistics, Faculty of Sports of the University of Prešov in Prešov.

What does a health care professional experience after a patient’s health is revealed? As a society, are we able to perceive the complexity of the situation in which the health care provider finds himself? How to approach it with respect and understanding?

Our colleagues Lucia Bosakova and Zuzana Dankulincova attended annual network meeting of DIPEx international online. On November 16, 22 and 23 network members from all around the world discussed their work progress in the last year, limitations and opportunities raised during COVID-19 pandemic and plans for international collaboration in the upcoming years. Prof. Andrea Madarasová Gecková, a head of Department of Health Psychology and Research Methodology at Medical Faculty of PJ Safarik University in Kosice and Bc. Marek Džalaj, a head of Children organisation Fénix met on 23 November 2021 and signed a Memorandum. We continue our collaboration on health and health-related behaviour of adolescents and we are looking forward to the next productive steps ahead of us.

Experts from various fields focused on teachers’ mental health spoke openly about the effects of pandemics, lockdowns and distance learning on teachers mental health and how they cope with this difficult life situation.

Prof. Andrea Madarasova Geckova sumarized research findings on mental health challenges of being teacher during pandemic and preliminary research findings from our APVV GenZer study on the role of teachers in school-related well-being of school-aged children.
