Our new project “Mental health of adolescents in the context of current social challenges”, received financial support from the Slovak Research and Development Agency!

We are looking forward to the opportunity to continue our ongoing work on Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study (HBSC).

HBSC is an international network of researchers and other practitioners who collaborate on activities aimed at better understanding the lives of today’s schoolchildren and try to implement this knowledge into national programs, policies and strategies aimed at disseminating these findings important to parents, teachers, pediatricians, social workers and other people who care about the healthy development of children and youth.

Colleagues from the DIPEx study have completed the first two wonderful interviews with narcolepsy patients who shared their experience with us. Huge thanks to both of them.

Why are women at higher risk of low value practice and consequently also at higher risk of ADVERSE EVENTS? Why in case of female patients, GPs more frequently violate recomendations (do DO NOT DO)?

OVERGEND project aim to analyze the phenomenon of overtreatment initiated in primary care from a gender perspective to reduce the number of females suffering from adverse events due to receiving unnecessary treatments. Also, to establish a recommendation for future overuse research incorporating a gender perspective.

Prof. Jose J. Mira Solves invited experts from Portugal (Prof. P. Sousa), Finland (Prof. S. Tella), Croatia (dr. B. Knezevic) and Slovakia (Prof. A. Madarasova Geckova) to discuss findings, interpretations and recommendations.

This Research Topic aimed to highlight Health of Adolescents from Quantitative and Qualitative Perspective of Research. Adolescence is a period of extensive psychological changes, such as the need to explore, growing independence and the need for peer acceptance and family support. Within this Research Topic was published 17 highly relevant and cited research articles.

On 16 March as a part of the national conference „Child at Risk“ organized by Research Institute of Child Psychology and Pathopsychology, our PhD students, Laura Bitto Urbanova and Simona Horanicova presented findings from qualitative survey GenZer mapping perspectives of adolescents on risk and benefits of using digital technologies and  factors facilitating or hindering their well-being and academic outcomes in schools.

Prof. Andrea Madarasova Gecková presented how HBSC survey is prepared and what will be the content of national report which is on the way to be published.

Community mobilization and communication are important for the successful implementation of the RIVER – EU project aimed at vaccination equity in marginalized Roma communities.

These topics were discussed during the last three days 7-9 of February here in Košice with our colleagues from Connaxis, who visited our department at Faculty of Medicine, Pavol Jozef Šafárik university, but also the community center where we met with Roma health mediators from Healthy Regions and the local school where we discussed the goals of the project with the principal and with the mayor.
